***Update: I arrived home to two SLEEPING babies. Kirsten put them down and after a few minutes of talking, they both fell asleep. If I believed in knocking on wood, I would be doing that right now. This seems to good to be true.
They've taken over our last 5 days.
That actually sounds worse than the reality, because I really couldn't imagine it going any better.
It was the endless searching for the beds and then the bedding and then the buying of the finally found beds and bedding. And then the clearing out of the room and the purging of all things "baby" and then the setting up the beds and the setting up of the new sleep environment....
And then came the first time to try out the beds... nap time on Monday. I don't know if we made too big of a deal of "yea!-you-are-getting-new-beds-and-they'll-be-so-fun-and-you-are-such-big-boys-now" or if Reagan and Kiefer were just being Reagan and Kiefer, but here's how it went down.
We got the beds up and ready (with the help of Uncle Eric) right before lunchtime. I made lunch and they were both so tired, they could hardly hold their heads up to shovel in the mac-n-cheese. Lunch ends, we clean them up, and take them into their new big boy room. Then the rush of energy hits. On the beds, off the beds. On brother's bed, off brother's bed. We finally get them tucked in, give kisses, do the blinds-fan-lights routine, and leave the room. And then go back in the room every 5 minutes for the next THREE HOURS. Kiefer would be so tired, he could barely leave his eyes open, I'd leave the room and within a minute, I'd hear him cracking up at whatever shananigan his brother was doing. And then I'd get Reagan in with his dog, puppy, dino and bear and he'd close his eyes, apparently long enough for me to shut the door before he'd be up and on his brother's bed. I thought "put the crib back up! I'm not doing this!" We didn't know if we should just call it a bust and get them up and try again at bedtime. BUT THEN they finally fell asleep, three hours after our first "night-night"s. And then I had to wake them up at 5:00 just to ensure they'd sleep that night!
BUT, we went to dinner with Donnie's mom, sisters, and grandma that night, and as soon as we got home, we got on jammies, read some books, and "flew" to the new beds... and braced ourselves for a long night.
Not a sound, until the THUD in the night. Otherwise known as Kiefer hitting the hardwood floor. And then the second THUD. But that's it. They slept straight through until their regular waking time. Same with night #2 (with two falls from K and one from R. Luckily the beds are pretty low to the floor and we've been padding the floor with piles of blankets) They actually slept in this morning.
Today will be the second round for naps, so we'll see. (They napped at school yesterday.) Aunt Kirsten will put them down so I'll either come home to sleeping babies big boys or to 2 big boys enjoying their new freedom.

Yeah to us for our hard work! I'm so happy they're staying in their own beds and sleeping so well, but I think that's mostly due to our consistency and teamwork.
We should celebrate!
Andrea - we have one of those temporary bed rails that fits between the mattress and box spring of any bed...if the thuds continue, let me know and you can sure borrow it! :)
